How Lestari Came to Be
Lestari began with a straightforward observation: families dealing with estate matters often came to legal offices feeling overwhelmed, uncertain what to expect, and unsure whether their concerns were worth raising. The legal process felt distant and procedural when it should have felt considerate and clear.
The practice was established in Kuala Lumpur with the intention of doing things differently. Rather than moving through cases at pace, we take the time to understand each family's particular situation — the relationships involved, the concerns unspoken, and the decisions that still feel difficult. The name Lestari, meaning "lasting" or "enduring" in Malay, reflects what we care about most: arrangements that hold, relationships preserved, and estates managed with the kind of care that families deserve.
Our work covers three principal areas — estate planning conversations for those preparing their affairs, administrative support for families managing a loved one's estate, and complete legacy engagements for more involved matters. Across all of them, the same approach applies: we explain clearly, we move at your pace, and we keep you informed without burying you in paperwork.
We are based at Plaza Sentral in Kuala Lumpur, accessible by KL Sentral public transit and familiar to many families in the Klang Valley. Our clients come from various backgrounds — some have straightforward estates, some have more complex family circumstances, and some simply want to make sure their affairs are in order before the need arises. All are welcomed with the same attentiveness.

Inheritance Law in Malaysia — What Families Need to Know
Malaysia operates under a dual legal framework for inheritance. Muslim estates are distributed according to faraid — the Islamic law of inheritance — which assigns specific shares to defined heirs and is administered through the Syariah court system. Non-Muslim estates fall under the civil jurisdiction of the High Court and are governed primarily by the Distribution Act 1958 and the Probate and Administration Act 1959.
Navigating these systems requires not only legal knowledge but an understanding of family circumstances. A well-prepared wasiat (will) can provide significant clarity for those left behind, while hibah arrangements allow individuals to transfer assets during their lifetime in a considered and documented way. For families without either, the administration process — whether through letters of administration or a grant of probate — involves a series of steps that benefit from patient professional guidance.
At Lestari, we work with individuals and families at each of these stages. Whether you are preparing ahead, or dealing with the estate of someone recently lost, our aim is to make the legal side of things as clear and manageable as possible. We are based in Kuala Lumpur and regularly assist clients from across the Klang Valley, including Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, and Subang Jaya.
Our fixed-fee services cover the three stages where legal involvement makes the most difference: the initial planning conversation, ongoing administration support, and comprehensive legacy engagements for estates requiring coordinated case management. Each is approached with the same patience and attention to detail that we believe every family deserves.
